Half price seed potatoes!

It isn’t too late to put in some spuds, and there are four varieties left in the EWAA Shop, all beautifully chitted for you (details here). So come along to get some on Sunday between 11.00 and 12.00.

Also, more long canes (7ft and 8ft) and New Horizon compost arrived this week.

PLANT SWAP – Sunday 14th MAY 10:30 am

Do you have a glut of one kind of plant but a gap in another patch?

Come along to the Social Area on the Middle Lane at 10.30 next Sunday to look for your dream plant!

This is a great way to share and to meet other plot-holders, so just come along for a browse and a chat even if your beds are already full. And do bring your excess plants to hand on even if you aren’t looking for a swap.

Break-in at Boundary Brook Nature Reserve tool shed

The double locked door was forced last night sometime between 4pm on Wednesday 26th and 8am on Thursday 27th May.  There was no damage to the reserve gate which didn’t appear to have been opened, so entry must have been over the fence somewhere along our boundary or from the allotments side and their perimeter fence, unless someone knew the keypad code, which was changed only recently.  We have not seen any other damage to the site.

The main items taken were 2 chainsaws, a cordless electric strimmer and Backpack Battery. The strimmer is only a couple of years old, and quite valuable. Please do watch out for these appearing on social media, FB marketplace, ebay, gumtree and at car boot sales.

REMINDER: sharing our allotment space

Now that the weather is improving the allotment site is getting busy, which is great to see!
Just a reminder about sharing this outdoor space. Please show consideration for your fellow plotholders and for the neighbouring residents. In particular, be aware of:

NOISE — music, radio, power tools, mowers, dogs, children, or any other loud and persistent noise.

One person’s choice of music may not be someone else’s!

BOUNDARIES —don’t leave tools, weeds, clippings, etc. on boundaries or extend over them with constructions or compost heaps.

Access should always be maintained along the boundaries.

New arrivals at the Shop!

Today a delivery arrived of:

  • Leek moth traps
  • Coddling moth traps
  • Liquid tomato feed
  • Slug bait (hedgehog safe)
  • John Innes seed compost

  • Tomato grow bags

Don’t miss these bargain-buys, on sale this Sunday from 10.00 until noon!

Water supply

At the EWAA site the mains supply is usually switched on when the clocks move forward to British Summer Time, so water will be flowing from the taps again this Sunday 26th March. However, if further severe frosts are forecast it will go off again until temperatures rise. The cold this winter has caused quite a bit of damage to pipes and taps, so please email the Committee on contact @ewaa.org.uk if you notice any leaks or drips.

Remember, never wash tools or vegetables in the shared water tanks because that can spread disease.

EWAA Work Party: Sunday 26th March

All members are encouraged to help at the EWAA Work Party on Sunday 26th March. We will be clearing brush and tidying up around the site.
There will be two sessions, so please join whichever one suits you, meeting up outside the Shop at 10.00 a.m. or at 12.30 p.m.
Bring sturdy gloves and whatever tools you have — secateurs, loppers, rake, wheel barrow, etc.

Thank you!
EWAA Committee
