Cub scouts offering gardening help

2nd Oxford Cubs (based in Ridgefield Rd) want to do their gardening badge but they need somewhere to do some gardening. They’d like to volunteer their time between 6.30-8pm on these dates:  30/4, 21/5, 11/6, 16/7.
There are around 18 cubs (age 7-10), and can be dispersed between a few allotments.
They need to use at least 3 different tools and watch plants grow. Ideally they would plant something the first session and then watch it grow, so working on the same allotments each time is preferred.
Whilst the allotmenteers attendance isn’t strictly necessary it is recommended to ensure that the right tasks are done and weeding is done correctly!
Let us know if you think you could offer some space for them to do this!

Heritage fruit plant sale and talk, 8th April

Andy Howard of the Heritage Fruit Tree Company will be visiting East Ward on Sunday 8th of April. He will be giving a free advice/talk session from 10 til 11, and selling plants and accessories 11 til 12. A stock list will be available next week – if you are looking for something specific, please let him know in advance as he won’t be transporting his entire stock to us!

This is a great opportunity to ask your questions of a local fruit expert!

Spring work party, 7th April, 10-12

We will have a workparty on  Saturday 7th April, for a spring tidy up of the site. We are planning to deal mainly with litter and brambles, so please bring gloves, secateurs, wheelbarrows, etc. Please come if you can, meet your fellow plotholders and spruce the place up a bit. No need to stay for the whole session if you don’t want to.

Irrigation works

We have received a grant from the council to put in a few extra taps and waterbutts in between the ones we have. Currently there is an exploratory trench open on the top road (Howard St end). It is safely fenced off, but please do be aware of it. Other works, including trench digging, will be taking place on all three roads over the next few weeks, please go carefully and do not move the fences under any circumstances. If there is a problem, please contact the committee via email.

We look forward to shorter walks to the water sources this year!
