A skip for the disposal of bulky rubbish is outside the shop for the use of all EWAA plotholders. It is for large items which are difficult to dispose of. Space is limited, so please try to take rubbish home, especially soft plastics which can be recycled in the blue bins as part of domestic waste collection.
Please bring any of the following rubbish for disposal and put it next to the skip in the designated area:
– glass and perspex – treated wood ( painted or varnished)- hard plastic – metal 
The skip is expensive and for that reason, volunteers are packing the skip to maximize space. 
Please DO NOT BRING:- Organic waste ( grass clippings/ leaves/ wood). This should ideally be composed on plots.-soft plastic e.g plastic bags – paint- rubbish from outside the allotment

Reminder to get ready for the SPRING INSPECTION 30th of April

We celebrate the wide variety of cultivation styles and the number of creative and
productive plots at EWAA. However, if plots are not being actively cultivated, please
remember that there are currently over 60 people on the waiting list for a plot!
This is a gentle reminder that everyone needs to keep their plot cultivated.

New water pipe will be installed at the top end (by the nature reserve) of the middle road this Tuesday and Wednesday, the 22nd and 23rd of March. A digger will be on site, so there will be no other vehicle access to that area, and we ask you to please take care if you need to be on site at the time.

Oxford Urban Wildlife Group have put a pile of hazel sticks in the communal play area. Please help yourself

Once again Andy Howard of the Heritage Fruit Company will be coming along to EWAA to give a talk and sell plants in March. Both will be outside the EWAA shop, under a gazebo, The talk will be from 10 -11, and plant sale 11-12.

Dear All,

The old-style highly toxic slug pellets will become illegal (for both garden and commercial use) when metaldehyde is banned from the end of this March. If you do have some lurking in your shed please get in touch with us for help and advice on how to dispose of them safely.

The reason for the ban is the very high toxicity to other wildlife, including birds and hedgehogs who may eat the poisoned slugs, and the long persistence in watercourses of metaldehyde.

The pellets we sell in the EWAA shop* are based on ferric phosphate, which does not have the same impacts as metaldehyde and are still safe to use if you need to.

If you’re looking for other ways to control slugs on your plot, there’s always the classic “come down when it’s dark and rainy and collect them in a bucket”! Or there are more ideas here, including using chopped up brambles around precious plants, and spot watering directly rather than creating lovely damp paths for the slugs to move around on.
