Hosepipe restrictions

Thames Water has set restrictions on water use from Tuesday 22nd July until further notice. No hosepipe use will be permitted on the allotment site other than by members who are on the Thames Water’s PRIORITY SERVICE REGISTER (for reasons of disability, chronic illness, etc).

If you intend to use a hosepipe for filling water containers through the period of restrictions, please contact the membership secretary via the contact form so that the Committee has a record.

Skip & disposal of rubbish

Skips are expensive to hire – the one on site in June cost almost £500. The Association can’t usually afford more than one per year. All plot holders have a responsibility to keep the site tidy:

  • Organic waste (grass clippings, leaves, etc.) should ideally be composted on your plot.
  • Whenever possible, take your rubbish home and dispose of it with your domestic waste, or at Redbridge recycling centre.
  • DO NOT bring your household rubbish to the site.
  • DO NOT dump rubbish anywhere on site, including outside the Shop.

Please keep in mind the difficulties of waste disposal when considering whether to bring things that are “bound to be useful” to the site – either you or subsequent plotholders will have to deal with them at some point!

The accumulated waste outside the Shop is being managed by the Committee. Please do not disturb or add to the separate piles.

If you have any questions, get in touch with the committee via our contact form.

The skip is now full!

Please do not bring any more items for disposal – take any rubbish away with you, either to your domestic bins, or your nearest waste disposal site. If you have any items which you think might be useful for someone else, please advertise on social media – do not leave outside the shop!

REMINDER: Plant swap – this Sunday, 11th May 10:30am

Do you have a glut of one kind of plant but a gap in another patch? Come to the plant swap!

Date: Sunday 11th May

Time: 10:30-12:00

Place: Social Area on the Middle Lane

This is a great way to meet other plot-holders, so come along for a chat even if your beds are already full. And do bring your excess plants to share even if you aren’t looking for a swap.

Shop open Easter Sunday

The EWAA shop is open this weekend, Easter Sunday 11:00-12:00.

It’s time to get your spuds in, and the ground might be a bit softer now after the rain. We still have some seed potatoes left, ready-sprouted and keen to be planted:

  • First earlies: Swift, Duke of York, Caledonian Pearl
  • Second earlies: Wilja
  • Maincrop: Marvel

There is a wide variety of seeds for both vegetables and flowers, and plenty of compost to sow them into.

The shop has a lot besides – soil improvement, pest control, crop protection, ground cover, canes, and all sorts of bits and pieces. See a full list here.

See you on Sunday! And every Sunday until August, 11:00-12:00.

New stock has arrived!

As tomorrow is the last Sunday in March the Shop will still be open for two hours between 10 and 12 – don’t forget that the clocks go forward tonight!

Sales at the start of the season were brisk and various item ran out, but fresh supplies arrived this week:

  • Fish, Blood, and Bone Meal
  • John Innes seed compost
  • Big Tom tomato growbags
  • 8ft canes
  • Moth traps for plum trees or for apples trees

NB – supplies of seed potatoes won’t be replenished!
